Occupational Therapist - Part-time

Easter Seals Midwest is currently seeking a part-time  Occupational Therapist in Autism Services

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for successfully evaluating and implementing occupational therapy services. He or she ensures that these services achieve Easter Seals Midwest's mission, meet individual goals and objectives for each client along with providing consultative services to families, caregivers, support staff, outside agencies and employees of Easter Seals Midwest.

** The hours for this position will be in the 3 pm - 7 pm range. The number of days can vary, but weekend mornings are needed. **


Core Functions:

•·         Conduct assessments using interviews, checklists and guided observations.  Report findings of assessment to family/caregiver and funding source through written report.

•·         Conduct therapy using best practices and implement changes as client needs change based on the data and changing needs of each person and as advances in autism treatment and hands-on experience provide better direction.

•·          Provide direct occupational therapy services.  This includes planning sessions, implementing treatment plans, monitoring progress and changing objectives as needed.

•·          Create individual occupational therapy goals that are realistic and achievable in accordance with the IEP, PCP and/or ISP.

•·          Write recommendations for services, discharge summaries, funding re-authorizations, etc. as needed.

•·          Complete billing for additional services such as consultations, observations, presentations, trainings, etc. each month.

•·          Schedule new therapy clients as they are presented.

•·          Maintain a caseload of a minimum of 80% billable hours.

•·          Brainstorm with other therapists to develop ideas for the summer program and other special projects and work as part of a team to develop and implement ideas for these special projects, including planning outings as needed and developing a lesson plan or guideline for implementation of the special project which is consistent with the goals as well as the missions and values of Easter Seals Midwest.

•·          Routinely consult and co-treat with therapists and staff at work to give them professional feedback.  Invite similar feedback for own professional growth.

•·          Collaborate with other therapists as needed to ensure consistency with implementation, especially when one client is being seen by multiple therapists.

•·          Maintain working relationship with client families to keep them informed of progress and to address any concerns they are having at home or in the community to ensure generalization of programming. 

•·          Provide support for families by attending IEP meetings or other conferences as appropriate and on the request of families.  Serve as voice and advocate for individuals with autism spectrum disorders.

·         Provide direct supervision for occupational therapy assistants and interns.

•·          Routinely observe certified occupational therapy assistant at work to give them professional feedback.  Invite similar feedback on supervisory process for own professional growth.

•·          Attend trainings required for job duties, including but not limited to CPR/First Aid, Mandt, BloodBourne Pathogens, and Abuse/Neglect, stay current with trainings and schedule refresher courses as needed.

•·          Maintain all certifications, licenses and trainings necessary to maintain credentials.

Qualifications:Education:  Master's degree in occupational therapy. Appropriate licensure/certification in occupational therapy.

Experience/Knowledge: At least one year of successful work experience and knowledge in sensory integration therapy, and experience working with individuals with autism spectrum disorders.
